Are column covers always less expensive than load bearing columns?

The answer depends on the size of the columns and the material from which the column is manufactured. Particularly in small diameters (6”, 8”, 10”, 12”), a load bearing column that is split for reassembly for use as a column cover may be less expensive than a non-load bearing column cover.
