FRP Classic™ Fiberglass Cornice Installation Instructions

1. Provide and install wood or galvanized frame blocking (at 16″ to 24″ on center) per shop drawings. Notch or set back blocking by 3/16″ where lap joints occur.
2. Typically, a cornice section will have a lap joint to the right. Begin an elevation with the left corner of the building and continue to the right.Prepare section for installation by sanding lap joint and countersinking holes where blocking  occurs. Countersink should allow a #8 flat head screw to sit just below gel coat surface.
3. Lay a bead of caulk on lap joint to be covered by section to be installed.
4. In cold to moderate weather allow 1/8″ at joint for expansion.
5. Attach cornice to blocking using #8 and 1 ½” galvanized or stainless steel screws in countersinks @ 16″ to 24″ on center.
6. Finish seams with paintable or color matched sealant.  (Paint after curing  with matching color.)
7. Patch screw holes with material provided.

Painting Instructions for FRP ClassicTM Fiberglass Cornices
The following steps should be followed when preparing the fiberglass cornices for paint:

1. Wipe down all cornice with wax and grease remover.
2. Lightly sand the cornices to be painted.
3. Wipe down cornices again with wax and grease remover.
4. Prime cornices if you desire (not necessary). Prime areas that have had any repairs.
5. Paint cornice with oil base paint. Melton Classics recommends a urethane based paint for best  results. Melton Classics does not recommend water-based paints.
